Our Story

Our Love Story
Part 2 -
What really happened.

It was a crisp morning in Western New York. Arthur and Maya boarded their time machine (read: 2015 Toyota Prius) for what was anticipated to be a casual trip to Buffalo city proper.

The drive was aesthetic, but uneventful: flat, gray Lake Erie; flat, gray spring sky; flat, gray highway.

But then—the Rainbow Bridge! “Take this route for Canada!” the highway sign said.

“Take this route to get to your destination!” the GPS said. Arthur, reasonably, listened to the vigilant device.

Evidence of the error was almost instantaneous.

First, a parking lot.

Next, barbed wire.

Finally, a man in a uniform with a gun.

Arthur rolled down the window so Maya could plead, “Please sir, we made a wrong turn! Let us remain in the United States, this great nation of ours.”

The guard was sympathetic. “They’ll let you back through, no problem!”

Arthur, always rational, asked, “Can’t we just turn around here?”

“Absolutely not,” said the guard as he cocked his weapon.

Three hours and two background checks later, Arthur and Maya were granted permission to leave Canada, but not without one last hurdle.

The customs officer in the guard booth on the way out grilled Arthur, the driver, who looked totally unsuspicious,

“What brought you to Canada?”

“It was a mistake! I swear, I never wanted to come here!”

The border agency accepted this answer, as it was quite common.

He leaned in, locking eyes with Maya. “And you? Why are you in this car with…him?”

“i LOVE him!” Maya replied.

The guard remained neutral. Flat, gray.

They were allowed to return home, to follow their destiny.

The ~*PrOpHeCy*~ will be fulfilled.

On April 8, 2024, at 9:51 am, the Mazatlan Mexican morning will be plunged into the  darkness of night.

A total solar eclipse is an event to experience at least once in a lifetime. A colossal shadow (umbra) cast by the Moon cascades across the continent, giving the tiny creatures of Earth an awe-inspiring personal confrontation with the heavens. In the entire universe, we have yet to find a planetary system as unique as ours; a perfect combination of distance and size that makes our largest satellite appear, at times, to be the exact same size as the Sun. In reality 64.3 million moons could fit into our closest star, however it sits nearly 400 times farther away.

These events happen every 18 years and 11 days yet the vast majority occur over the open ocean. Only a small portion of the population has ever witnessed any sort of solar eclipse, let alone experienced the thrill of totality. This encounter is sometimes a matter of luck. Observers must account for the tilt of the Earth, the location of the moon, and of course the Sun. Therefore, eclipses are only viewable along a specific, narrow path. Since this path always changes, seeing a total solar eclipse can be exacting.  By painstakingly recording these events over millena, ancient astronomers eventually discovered the pattern of this miraculous phenomenon, solving the celestial puzzle and allowing us to plan for eclipse events far into the future.

Where to Stay

Hotels and B&Bs

We are working on reserving hotel rooms our guests, and this will be updated when we have more information.  Your RSVP will be especially usefull so please reply ASAP.

Hotels do not typically book this far in advance, so we and we are still working with management from DoubleTree by Hilton Mazatlan to create an exception for this event.  These rooms will disappear quickly when they become available and travel agencies are already creating deals now for world travelers to arrive in Mazatlán for the eclipse.

Nevertheless, we highly recommend reserving an BnB now and bookings are available but going fast. These can be cancelled for free when we have hotel information and you would rather stay in a hotel.

We will be staying @ 82000, Belisario Domínguez 1707_3, Centro, Mazatlán, Sin. This is a few blocks away from the popular Olas Altas Beach, in Mazatlán’s Old Town - a neighborhood filled with restored, French-style 19th and 20th century buildings.

This neighborhood is centered around the leafy and laidback Plazuela Machado - a family-friendly square which comes alive with live music in the evenings.

Here we can explore art galleries, small museums, boutiques, and a range of bars, restaurants, and cafes, as well as historically significant attractions such as the Ángela Peralta Theater.

Most walking, biking, and Segway tours of Mazatlán will pass through the Mazatlán Old Town and typically include stops in Plazuela Machado.
